It’s a new year yet the old standards remain as the 10 best-selling vehicles in America. But there is an interesting development as the Honda Accord sold fewer than half as many units as its longtime rival, the Toyota Camry.
The Accord sold 13,659 units in January while the Camry sold 28,295 vehicles. That means the Accord once again misses the top 10 list and lags the Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata and Chevy Malibu in sales. Perhaps most surprising is the fact that all four of these popular sedans trail the Chevy Impala this month as that favorite of rental car lots popped into the top 10 in 10th place with sales of 16,009 vehicles.
Remember the days when the best-selling sedan was a two-horse race between the Accord and the Camry? January’s sales are more evidence that the times have already changed.
For truck drivers, no changes are visible as the the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500 remain the leaders. However, month-over-month sales of the Silverado are down nearly 5 percent while sales of Ram trucks saw a 46-percent increase over December.
Rebates and incentives helped move the metal in showrooms in December as many manufacturers offered some impressive deals on 2011 models. But in January and February, the best offers are found on 2012 models.
We’ve included links to available rebates and incentives for America’s top-selling vehicles. Some of these incentives are good for a few months while others expire at the end of the month. If you find a deal you like, jump on it with confidence knowing you’re buying one of the most popular cars in the land.
