There are many hidden speed junkies out there who have yet to shed their bleak rides (read: commuter/family vehicles). As a consequence of necessity, many of us have gone without the vehicle that makes us happy. Let me put it another way. How many of us said, “When I grow up – I want a minivan!”
Very few indeed.
As a consequence of today’s deteriorating financial situation, the idea of a fast, fun vehicle is even farther away for many; but, it doesn’t have to be. In fact, this might be the golden time for those who pine for performance to step out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary!
Here’s an example. Let’s say you have a 2003 Toyota Camry SE with about 89 – 91 thousand miles. Nothing wrong with a Toyota Camry – they are one of the best selling cars in the country for a good reason; however, getting your heart pumping is not exactly in the Camry’s resume. You can get $9,000 - $11,000 for a Camry like the one I described.
Guess what else you can buy for $9,000 - $11,000? How about an early to mid 80’s Porsche 911 or a 98 – 2000 Porsche Boxster!? Now THAT is the way to live! Porsches are legendary for performance and reliability. If you get one of the Boxsters, you will enjoy darn good fuel economy along with amazing performance!
Looking for cheaper speed? Why not embrace a V8? Seriously, there is no substitute for cubic inches with older Corvettes and Mustangs. There are some out there with reasonable mileage available for less than $8,000 – a fun track day may be in your future. One additional attribute to the American muscle cars is their fairly cheap upkeep and myriad of aftermarket performance upgrades. Everything from suspension, exhaust, turbochargers and superchargers can beef up your used American performance machine to astounding levels.
