The Infiniti G37 Sedan is the asphalt king of this list when it comes to all out horsepower. This is one of the fastest vehicles on this list. What is so striking about the G37 is its extremely handsome exterior, amazing road manners and surprisingly luxurious interior. This is a rear wheel drive based vehicle which bodes well for performance driving (AWD is optional) and it makes for a very comfortable ride. The Infiniti G37 has a tremendously inviting interior with supple seating surfaces and very good leg room. Although Nissan is the parent company and components are shared, they are nearly imperceptible. Infiniti’s designers did a commendable job in building a vehicle that bridges the gap between a luxury sedan and a sports sedan. An all aluminum, very powerful (the most powerful on our list) 328 horsepower (making 269 lbs feet of torque) 3.7 liter V6 is the only power-play available for the Infiniti G37. Two transmissions are available: the 6-speed manual and the optional 7-speed automatic.
The Volvo S60 is a mid sized competitor in this segment. Over the past decade, Volvo’s exterior design has turned from boring to beautiful. The sleek lines of the S60 are striking from any angle. Despite its distinctiveness, you will never confuse the Volvo S60 with any other automaker’s vehicle. The interior is supremely comfortable and seat comfort is first rate. Interior sophistication is well within the “luxury” bracket and all of the control surfaces switch gear and gauges are striking and a joy to use. Many of the components are shared with upper and lower Volvo (and some Ford/Mazda) vehicles. Still, these are well made components and they are not readily apparent. A stout turbocharged 208 (236 lbs feet of torque) 2.5 liter 5-cylinder is the entry power-plant. The FWD layout (AWD is an option) is connected to a smooth 5-speed automatic transmission.
