Still one of the best
Sometimes I am lucky enough to test a vehicle in its proper environment. For the rugged Toyota Tacoma, that environment is near my favorite fishing hole. Please do not get me wrong, I have tested many Tacomas in a variety of terrain. I find that the overall package can be assessed in an area that I am intimately familiar with.
In this case, I refer to a wild river fishing nook in the Rocky Mountains.
The Toyota Tacoma Access Cab is nearly the size of full size pickup trucks of a decade ago. At 208.1 inches (over 17 feet) the Toyota Tacoma Access cab is long, yet over a foot shorter than the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Long Bed. With a length of the 73.5 inch bed (which is considered the “long bed” in the Double Cab) and a 56.7 inch bed width (above the wheel wells) the Toyota Tacoma Access Cab’s standard bed is an excellent utility size.
On a frosty winter day, I loaded up the 2009 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab 4X4 SR5 (a popular configuration, by the way) with three coolers, 7 rods w/reels, three folding chairs, three tackle boxes, two buckets, a case of drinkables, rope, two very large friends and a thick tarp. This cargo barely made a dent in the Toyota Tacoma Access Cab’s over 1,300 lbs capacity.
Seeing a nifty in-bed storage compartment (which is like a big glove compartment) I shoved in a few bottles of water with some ice. We added a completely unnecessary boom-box stereo as there is an optional 115V/400W in bed, three prong power point. We simply HAD to use the outlet.
