However, it’s always fun to check out the next best thing in funky urban transports or out-of-reach luxury designs. While the cars on this list may never arrive in showrooms sporting these exact designs, the technology behind and within them likely will power vehicles you drive in the next few years.
Subaru Hybrid Tourer. With its funky gull-wing doors, this sleek 4-passenger sedan with AWD emulates Doc Brown's best line from Back to the Future: Where we're going, we don't need roads. You almost expect this vehicle to fly. Michael McHale, Subaru's Corporate Commutations Director, stated the Subaru Hybrid Tourer combines hybrid technology with the 2.0-liter Boxer engine and a stop/start system to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption. You'll be able to gun that engine to 88-mph in no time (or in 2012 when the engine—but not this cool car—is actually released).
