Electric Vehicles Crucial to National Security
Wednesday, October 21, 2009
During a speech in Detroit at "The Business of Plugging In" conference, retired General Wesley Clark made it clear that developing the technology for electric vehicles is crucial to national security. At first glance, this might seem like a bit of a stretch, but he makes an incredibly valid point. I will present his point in the form of a syllogism:
Cars need oil/gas to run
Freeing ourselves from oil dependence on other countries is crucial to national security
Electric vehicles do not require oil; thus, they are crucial to our national security.
According to General Clark, the US spends about $300 - $500 billion a year on gas imported from other countries. In addition to releasing the country from an oil dependency, bolstering the electric vehicle business will mean reinvestment in American technology and job creation.
General Clark thinks that electric vehicle technology could be the next big thing to come out of America, that we need it to be the next big thing.
Thoughts?
